Compared to last month’s meeting, this presentation is aimed more at intermediate to advanced Flex and Flash developers. Chas Mastin and Brian Sampson of Whistlebox speak about the joys and pitfalls of using Flex Data Services and Flash Media Server when creating real-world RIAs. Chas presents the highlights of FMS and Flex and will provide examples of code for streaming and webcam recording. Brian gives an FDS overview and will show some simple examples of integrating an AS3 application with middle-tier code.

Jason Thorpe and Jonathon Doklovic of FlashDoctors.com present an early peek at their open source Flash project aimed at advanced Flash Actionscript developers. They will give an overview of each module of the project, advantages and disadvantages of using various modules, and walk through an example project or two.

Come in to the Schematic office and watch/listen to the Breeze presentation with other group members. Discussion with presenters to follow presentation.

Can a Flex client work with a server-side .NET-based solution? What are the points of integration? How can a Flex application invoke .NET objects or fetch data from a .NET data store? Is there a way to do data management in a Flex-with-.NET solution?

Via Breeze presentation, Mark Piller of MidnightCoders in Dallas, TX will delve into the topic of Flex and .NET integration and address related questions. Various integration approaches will be presented along with pros and cons, best practices, and several innovative techniques to bridge the gap between a Flex client and server-side .NET application.

Mims Wright will present on the powerful and intuitive State Pattern. He’ll discuss the ideas behind the State pattern and walk through a simple example. He’ll also explore some of the possibilities available through the Flex framework’s View States.

Members are also highly encouraged to share your Top 10 Flash sites, projects and memories of the last decade. It’s “open mic” night for Flash enthusiasts.
